Greg Chappell – A dark spot

Hope everyone knows who Greg Chappell is. Yes, I am talking about the expensive coach for the Indian Cricket team. It is already more than one year since Greg took the charge of team India. Many of the cricketing experts agree that the present Indian team is undoubtedly the strongest Indian team to win a world cup. It is a blend of youth and experience. We have masters like Sachin, Dravid and off course Anil Kumble and young guns like Raina, Munaf, and Powar. Over the last two years team India relied more on experimentation. Yet many critics agree that it is to make the team stronger in every department for the Caribbean Fiesta.

If we think everything optimistically then I too agree with many cricketing legends that whatever Greg is doing is for the benefit of the Indian Cricket team. But sometimes we need to think in the other way to sense the threat. Well if you look into Greg’s career as an Aussie, there was one dark moment where Greg lost all his respect in spite of winning the match for his country. If you don’t know about that strange incident in cricketing history, it’s my pleasure to give a hint about it.

It was an ODI between Australia and New Zealand. The Kiwis were chasing a target and the situation came where they need 6 runs from the final delivery. Greg Chappell is bowling…everyone accept with the fact that hitting a six of the last ball is a difficult task. Imagine what happened….Greg bowled that ball and kiwis couldn’t score a run. The darker side of this is Greg infact bowled an underarm delivery which we see in blind cricket. Poor Kiwis how they can hit an underarm delivery over the boundaries, It is impossible.

Yes Greg Chappell broke the spirit of the game by bowling an underarm delivery. Until then there was never a rule in the laws of cricket to avoid this. Greg used this tactic as a lawyer who makes use of the loop holes. My point here is if he can desire to win he doesn’t care about loosing his own character. He did that for the the sake of his nation.

Since Indian team is an alarming threat to the Aussies, somewhere I feel that all the experimenting which Greg’s doing with the Men in blue is to weaken our side mentally and physically. So wake up BCCI, before it is too late. May be they can put a check for experimenting.

I back my comment because when Irfan Pathan is so good in bowling why is he experimenting him with bat and thereby loosing his rhythm in bowling. Why a cricketer like Anil Kumble was rested or ignored for one day cricket when he is a great strength to the team. Why a batsmen like Sehwag is being pushed into the middle order when he is still a night mare for the opposition teams as an opener. Why Rahul is promoted as an opener when he is so good at no.3.

Inspite of everything what Greg’s done so far, I still hope that my view is wrong and Greg could help team India in winning the world cup next year.
